Next Step for Aragorn’s Boots

I picked up the completed strider boots yesterday and am quite pleased with the results. The solution to the cuff doesn’t look out of character with the original. I’m borrowing a pair of barn boots from a friend whose daughter rides to get the wear patterns to look authentic. The last unexpected problem is the [...]

Finishing the Strider Boots

The Strider boots from the Lord Of The Rings movie are in the final stage. Teasing out the details on the action figures we are using for reference didn’t give us a lot of information about the construction of the cuff. Neither did several re-runs of the movie. We arrived at what we feel is [...]

Italian Renaissance at 12th Night

The ankle boots were the final part to a black velvet Italian tunic made for the annual SCA 12th Night celebration in Hemet, CA. The touch of suede gave them the perfect blend of textures to tie them to the matte velvet and silk cord accents. The soles were French crepe for dancing and flexible [...]

Italian Renaissance Ankle Boots

suede trimmed Italian Renaissance boot

Just in time for 12th Night. This boot is a blend of a Medieval style boot and the Renaissance boots worn in the movie Romeo and Juliet with Michael York. We added the suede detail on the cuff to give it a touch of texture and color contrast. The costume [...]

Success with the Strider boots

The prototype has returned from it’s fitting and is going into production. The only detail remaining will be just how to “distress” them. I re-watched the Lord of the Rings movie and went by one of the riding stables and took a look at wear patterns on boots that spend a lot of time on [...]

Lord Of The Rings challenge

We just got an order to create the strider boots from the movie. It should be interesting. The best “image” of those boots is the action figures which may work out pretty well. It does give us a 3-D view to work from. Even found a chunk of accidentally distressed leather. It fell off the [...]

Elizabethan Meets Pirate Successfully

I delivered our composite pirate/Renaissance boot at Great Western War on Columbus Day weekend. Andrea loved them and wore them all week. Functional success and beauty, the best combination. The blue was just the right shade to accent her Renaissance garb.

New Boots for Great Western War

We came up with this compromise between the Elizabethan and pirate look Andrea was trying to blend. The mock up for her approval is made out of vinyl so she can make notes on it for changes. She slashed the cuff and did a tape job on it to get exactly the size she wanted. [...]

Fantasy costume fans like my boots, too

Ryan has added a new character to his Final Fantasy game and want us to create boots for his new character. Since we’ve already done a pair for another of his characters , I hope we’ll be able to build on the first pair and refine the techniques to create an even more impressive pair. [...]

Designing Boots for Both an Elizabethian Woman and an 18th Century Pirate

The challenge is to design a pair of pirate boots that can be worn with Renaissance garb at SCA  events,  Renn Faires, and at Pirate events. Jumping two centuries with one pair of boots! In addition the woman is a vendor at those events and needs to be on her feet all day making comfort [...]
